“Ya’ab” is defined as a geometric pattern that allows light and air to pass through. As a tribute to the rich and enduring Mayan culture—and with a commitment to honoring the legacy of our ancestors—this principle is reinterpreted to shape the spatial experience of the hotel’s arrival and common areas.
From the moment of arrival, the architecture is conceived as a gradual transition between exterior and interior. Latticed screens, permeable planes, and lightweight canopies filter natural light while promoting cross-ventilation.
This gesture not only responds to the climatic conditions of the Caribbean, but also constructs an ever-changing atmosphere—where light and shadow trace shifting patterns throughout the day, creating a sensory experience in constant transformation.
